Korean (restaurant’s) name that doesn’t make sense even in Korean.
•October 27, 2005 • Leave a CommentI just know I’ll be dreaming of wagging duck butt tonight!
Found at Chowhound DC & Baltimore Board
Warthog says;
..Since then, whenever I’ve wanted to tell people abot the place, I’ve been at a loss to tell them the name. The sign just has a rear view of a cartoon duck shaking it’s butt, and the name in Korean – no English translation.
I finally got curious, and asked a friend who has a Korean wife to give me a translation. It turns out that my previous description of “look for the sign with the duck shaking its, um, butt” was pretty darned accurate. The name (phoenetically converted into our alphabet) is “Ori kundaengi”, which my friend’s wife tells me means roughly translates to “swinging duck butt”. If anybody has any clue why one would name a restaurant that, please let me know. My friend’s wife was at a loss – it wasn’t based on any story, pun, or colloquial expression that she knows of…
First post – the customarily “Hello World.”
•October 21, 2005 • Leave a CommentI just received my WP invite today. Woohoo! Right? Well, that was until I tried to use “Import” to import my previous posts on Blogger.com… and nearly gave me a taste of defibrillator for my almost stopped ticker.
Not only that the imported posts got messed up (my guess, character encoding), but WP also changed my blogger’s template (to say — “This blog is not available temporarily.. bobloblaw bobloblaw .. in the meantime, try WP!” — nice…) and settings… Thanks the PTB that I had a backup template code on hand. It may be just the template provided by Blogger, but I did quite a few modifications to it. Going over all that again would not be a pleasant experience — especially as a result of my stupidity (not reading up on it first) / curiorsity (just had to try it, didn’t you!).
Anyway, still glad I’m invited to the party. Hope to write more later!
